9-4-23 THOUGHTS
It’s LABOR DAY! There’s something most American about taking a holiday to celebrate workers and laborers. The old song FAR AND NEAR by James Oren Thompson had a chorus that said...
Lord of harvest, send forth reapers;
hear us, Lord, to thee we cry;
send them now the sheaves to gather,
ere the harvest-time pass by.
It’s our song Church! We enjoy the holiday, do we do the work?
Mark 9:35-38 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. 36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 "Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."
Jer 8:20 "Harvest is past, summer is ended, And we are not saved."
My Prayer:
Lord, help us to address the action side of our discipleship. Help us to be “doers of the work”. Arouse us from our lethargy and apathy. Thank You for comfort, O God, may we not “consume it on our own lusts.” Revive us and give us life in You. Restore the joy of Your salvation to our hearts and our hands. Make me a servant, Lord make me like You. May we seek you, and find You, and abide in Your love. In the name of our Savior, Amen
